Falk Richter

Born in Hamburg in 1969, author and director. Studied direction at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Has been working as a director and author at national and international theatres since 1994 such as e. g. at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, the Nationaltheater Oslo, the Toneelgroep Amsterdam, the Théâtre National de Bruxelles, the Ruhrtriennale, the Salzburger Festspielen and the Festival d’Avignon. His most known texts are »Gott ist ein DJ« (1989), »Unter Eis« (2004) und »TRUST« (2009), which were great success worldwide and are produced internationally. His play »Nothing hurts« was invited to Theatertreffen in 2000. He was awarded the Friedrich-Luft-Preis for best stage production for his play »For The Disconnected Child« at the Schaubühne in 2014. He was honoured with the fifth poetry lectureship for drama at the Universität Saarbrücken in 2016. In 2018, he was appointed Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of the Arts and Literature) by the French government and in the same year his production of Elfriede Jelinek’s »Am Königsweg« at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg was invited to Theatertreffen as well as honoured best stage production of the journal Theater heute. Richter is visiting professor for direction at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst »Ernst Busch« Berlin and Professor for Performing Arts at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen since 2019.
