First Half of the Season 2026/27
We are pleased to present this booklet, offering an overview of the premieres and programme through February 2027. The season brochure is now available in the building and can also be read online here.
The season is opening in early October with the German-language premiere of the award-winning play Stereophonic by David Adjmi, directed by Thomas Ostermeier. In late October, Alexander Zeldin’s play Antigone. Der Abschied will have its German-speaking premiere. In December, 1536 by playwright Ava Pickett will also celebrate its German-language premiere, marking director Jaz Woodcock-Stewart’s first collaboration with the Schaubühne ensemble. In February, director Simon McBurney is returning to the Schaubühne with Das blinde Licht (published in English as »When We Cease to Understand the World«) by Chilean author Benjamin Labatut. The play tells the story of scientists who are forced to live with the catastrophic consequences of their discoveries and explores how these consequences are shaping our present-day world.
Carolin Emcke is continuing her Streitraum series, this time exploring »Principle of Hope, or: To Think the (Im)possible«. In this season’s Streit ums Politische discussion series, Heinz Bude is scrutinising »The Aggrieved Society«. Inspired by Ava Pickett’s »1536«, this booklet contains a conversation with historian Ute Frevert about the impact social and political transformations have on people’s everyday lives, altering emotions, relationships and scopes for action.
Our new season campaign has been designed by TOILETPAPER, the magazine and creative studio founded by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari which is recognised for its surreal and unsettling imagery.
We are delighted to welcome Moritz Gottwald back to the ensemble at the start of the new season. In the second half, Laurenz Laufenberg and Joachim Meyerhoff will also be returning.

Season Campaign 2026/27 by TOILETPAPER
This season’s publicity campaign has been created by TOILETPAPER. Since 2010, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari have been publishing the eponymous magazine which consists entirely of staged photographs. For the Schaubühne, they have put our ensemble centre stage, portraying each actor in a bespoke way. The backdrops and styling were realised by the Schaubühne’s production departments of set design, costumes, props and hair and makeup. You can find the pictures of the campaign in the season booklet of the Schaubühne (to be seen hier as PDF) and spread over the season as large billboards in the urban area of Berlin.
