New episode »BACKSTAGE« with Maria Popov
For our BACKSTAGE video column, journalist and author Maria Popov followed dresser Helen Boomes during a performance of »The Wild Duck«. The latest episode reveals just how detailed every task is and how precisely every step is choreographed before, during, and after a performance to ensure everything runs smoothly. Check out the new clip!
The journalist and author Maria Popov takes you behind the scenes of the Schaubühne in our new video column. Inspired by this season’s campaign by the design duo ZEBU, which puts the theatre’s workshops in the spotlight, the series focuses on the people who usually remain out of view. How do they work, and how does the applause reach them? Maria Popov doesn’t just observe. She gets involved herself. She welds, sews, irons, does laundry, and even helps produce some of the objects. By the way, you can win those objects… so stay tuned and follow the series here or here!
MARIA POPOV is a journalist, presenter, and author. After nearly a decade as the defining face of the funk format »Auf Klo« (2016–2024), she now hosts its successor, »Das letzte Gespräch«. In October 2024, she published her debut book, »Kein Bock Club«, with the publisher Kiepenheuer & Witsch. In addition to her work as a presenter—including for the youth fair Tincon at re:publica and the German Theatre Prize FAUST—she produces reports and documentaries as a journalist. On her social media channels, Maria Popov is a prominent voice on queer, feminist, and socio-political issues.

Season campaign 2025/26 by ZEBU
The Schaubühne’s campaign for this season was designed by ZEBU. Their visual language is characterised by powerful compositions and bright colours, and moves effortlessly between representation and abstraction. For this year’s Schaubühne season campaign, the artists went to see what was happening backstage, and decided to focus on how theatre is produced.
You can find the pictures of the campaign in the season booklet of the Schaubühne (to be seen here as PDF) and spread over the season as large billboards in the urban area of Berlin.
