Season 2024/25

The season programme with a preview of all upcoming productions until the end of the season is now available in the house and can also be read online here.

Our 2024/25 season is moving towards its second half, and we are delighted to invite you to look ahead to our upcoming programme through to the summer.

Due to the massive cuts in the cultural budget, we had to significantly reduce our programme and close our experimental venue, the Studio, as a first consequence. We regret this, especially for all the independent artists with whom projects had already been arranged. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to three premieres, our annual festival and panels.

The Chilean theatre maker Marco Layera has already frequently been invited to FIND. In January, his first production with the Schaubühne ensemble will celebrate its premiere: »Territorium« tells the story of a woman’s fate and the collision of two worlds. The manor house of a large estate burns down. The owners of the manor die, while their long-time employee survives – and is immediately suspected.

In the 1990s, in »Angriffe auf Anne« (»Attempts on Her Life«), a succession of vague hints and contradictory information, the British author Martin Crimp outlined the portrait of a woman who allegedly remains absent. Who is she? The premiere of this play, which had been scheduled for October, had to be pushed back due to illness, the production directed by Lilja Rupprecht will now be presented in Februrary.

Marius von Mayenburg is directing a play at the Schaubühne again in March, namely his own text »Ex«, which will also see the return of Marie Burchard and Sebastian Schwarz to the Schaubühne. At the heart of this venomous comedy for three players is a professionally successful, highly-educated couple. One evening, the husband’s ex-girlfriend, who works in a pet shop, turns up and raises questions that they had repressed: how do love and one’s social environment relate to each other?

Thanks to external funding, Festival International New Drama is once again bringing globally significant productions and new discoveries to Berlin this April. This year we are showing works from Kyrgyzstan, Belgium, France and the USA among others. This year’s Artist in Focus will be the Franco-Vietnamese director and author Caroline Guiela Nguyen.

The »Streitraum« conversation series, by and with Carolin Emcke, will continue, and this season, in light of the budget cuts threatening the cultural world, will address the urgent question: »What is culture for?«.

In »Klassenzimmer«, Vanessa Vu will invite guests to the replica of her first childhood bedroom, in order to reflect together on their social origins and on the question of how these have influenced their own lives.

We warmly welcome Marie Burchard and Magdalena Lermer to the ensemble.
