Polarisation is a highly topical catchword for our understanding of contemporary societies. Seemingly irreconcilable camps that can no longer be traced back to class positions face off against each other in the political arena. The dramatisation of difference is part of the political game of a democracy, but increasingly polarisations are becoming so extreme that they amount to a choice between friend and foe. On four dates at the start of the new season,sociologist Heinz Bude will meet his guests for pointed but not polarising discussions.
Streit ums Politische has been a regular discussion series at the Schaubühne since the 2011/12 season. Heinz Bude has been Professor of Macrosociology at the University of Kassel since 2000. His research encompasses changes in social inequality and its meaning for the self-given reality of contemporary societies. In recent years, »Society of Fear«, »The Feeling of the World«, »On the Power of Sentiment« and »Solidarity. The Future of a Great Idea« have been published.
