Theatre Education
The Schaubühne Theatre Education would like to give people of all ages the opportunity to get in touch with the theatre – whether as spectators, participants of workshops or projects, in discussions or cooperations. We want to open the doors of the Schaubühne and invite you to get more involved with our house and its productions.
Mai-An Nguyen
I was born and raised in Cottbus, Eastgermany. At the time of German reunification theater offered me from an early age the opportunity to experience myself in different roles. Piccolo Theater Cottbus (Children's and youth theater) was a special home for me. In a city where I encountered social stereotypes and prejudices on a daily basis, I had the freedom to be and do whatever I wanted on this stage. From 2011 to 2014 I studied theater education at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences/Lingen Campus. While still a student, I became part of the BuT committee “Jugendclubs an Theatern” and volunteered for the “Bundestreffen Jugendclubs an Theatern“ until 2017. In 2014 I began my first engagement at Neue Bühne Senftenberg. There, I realized the project “Rastlos..., Grenzenlos..., Unterwegs” (Restless..., Boundless..., On the Move), a German-Polish youth theater project on Brecht's exile poetry in cooperation with the Dom Kultury Bielsko Biala and established the “sturmfrei! Festival,” an intergenerational art festival for the region of Lower Lusatia. In 2017, my path led me to the Maxim Gorki Theater, where I worked closely with Uta Plate to develop the outreach program for the work of the exile ensemble. I have been at the Schaubühne since the 19/20 season, and took over as head of the department in season 20/21.
I am also a member of the jury for the Berlin Festival's Theatertreffen der Jugend (Youth Theater Meeting).
