Angela Winkler

Member of the ensemble from 1971 to 1978, guest performer at the Schaubühne since 1998. Born in Templin, she trained as a medical technical assistant in Stuttgart and then studied acting with Ernst Fritz Fürbringer in Munich. She has had engagements including at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin and enjoyed great film successes with »The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum« (1975) and »The Tin Drum« (1979, both directed by Volker Schlöndorff). From 1986 onwards, she has increasingly worked again in theatre, particularly with Peter Zadek, including at the Burgtheater in Vienna and the Berliner Ensemble, and also had further roles in cinema and on television. Her accolades include the German Critics’ Prize in 1975, the German Film Award in 1976, Theater heute Actress of the Year in 1999, the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring in 2001, the German Television Academy Award in 2015, the German Acting Award in 2019, the Independent Spirit Award in 2019 and many more. She is a member of the Academy of Arts, Berlin.
