Bert Wrede

Born in 1961 in Potsdam. From 1982 to 1986, he studied music, and from 1986 to 1994, he held a teaching position at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. He has collaborated with musicians including Phil Minton, Friedrich Schenker, and Elliott Sharp. In 1997, he received a composition scholarship from the Berlin Academy of Arts, and in 1998, a work scholarship in New York. His theater work includes collaborations with Wilfried Minks, Martin Kušej, Dimiter Gotscheff, and Andrea Breth. He has worked regularly with Michael Thalheimer for over 20 years. In 2002, he received the Nestroy Prize for the music for »Letzter Aufruf« by Albert Ostermaier (directed by Andrea Breth) and »Glaube Liebe Hoffnung« by Ödön von Horváth (directed by Martin Kušej) at the Burgtheater Vienna. In 2006, he won the German Film Award for Best Film Music for »Knallhart« (directed by Detlev Buck). He has also released numerous albums as a guitarist and composer and has worked at the Burgtheater Vienna, Residenztheater Munich, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Thalia Theater Hamburg, National Theatre The Hague, Dramaten Teater Stockholm, Théâtre National de la Colline Paris, and at the Salzburg Festival.
