Johan Leysen

Born 1950 in Hasselt. He studied acting at the Studio Herman Teirlinck. Diverse collaborations with Guy Cassiers, Johan Simons and Heiner Goebbels. Engagements in international theatre productions such as »M, a reflection« based on interviews by Heiner Müller and Alexander Kluge (Direction: Kris Verdonck, Hebbel am Ufer, 2012), »Lear is in town« based on the play by William Shakespeare (Direction: Ludovic Lagarde, Festival d’Avignon, 2013) and »Caspar Western Friedrich« (Direction: Philippe Quesne, Münchner Kammerspiele, 2016), Appearances and numerous parts in film productions such as in Jean-Luc Gordard’s »Hail Mary« (1985), »Schussangst« based on a novel by Dirk Kurbjuweit (Direction: Dito Tsintsadze, 2003), »The American« (Direction: Anton Corbijn, 2010) and »Jeune et Jolie« (Direction: François Ozon, 2013). His TV productions include »Schimanski: Kinder der Hölle« (Direction: Edward Berger, 2001) and »Tatort: Verrat« (Direction: Hans Noever, 2002). In 1998 he received the Gouden Kalf for his role in »Felice… Felice…« (Direction: Peter Delpeut). Collaborations with the IIPM and Milo Rau include »The Civil War« (Theater Spektakel, 2014) and »Five Easy Pieces« (Kunstenfestivaldesarts, 2016).
