Isabella Sedlak

Director and writer. Born in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. Studied International Business Administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and Theatre, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna. Worked in film and television in Austria, the UK, France and Italy, among other countries. Worked in education and socially engaged arts; co-founded a feminist centre for girls and young women in Vienna. From 2014, worked as an assistant director at Maxim Gorki Theater and Deutsches Theater Berlin. Co-directed projects by Ersan Mondtag. Since 2019, has worked as a freelance director and writer. Founded the collective »Bauer + Baum«. Her work has been presented at venues including Maxim Gorki Theater, Schauspiel Dortmund, NTM Mannheim and Theater Drachengasse in Vienna. In 2025, wrote and directed »Between the River and the Sea«. Invitations include Steirischer Herbst (Austria), Flora Theatre Festival (Czech Republic), Edinburgh Fringe 2025 (UK), Segal Center NYC (US) and Royal Court Theatre London. Since 2026, a writer at the Royal Court Theatre.
