Martín Valdés-Stauber

He studied sociology and economics in Munich, Friedrichshafen and Berkeley. After completing a research master’s degree at the University of Cambridge, he joined the artistic leadership team of the Münchner Kammerspiele as a dramaturg, where he worked from 2017 to 2023. The theatre was named Theatre of the Year in 2019 and 2020. From 2023 to 2026, Martin Valdés-Stauber worked as a dramaturg at Schaubühne Berlin, collaborating regularly with Yael Ronen, among others. Their production »Bucket List« was invited to the 2024 Theatertreffen festival. He teaches at various universities and conducted research as a fellow at the Käte Hamburger Research Centre at LMU Munich, focusing on changes in the practices of remembrance in an increasingly globalised world.
His production »TIME BUSTERS« received an award in 2024 that included an invitation to the Theatertreffen der Jugend festival. His collaboration with Marco Layera and Elisa Leroy, »Oasis de la impunidad«, was included in The New York Times’ year-end selection in 2022. In 2021, he received the Marie Zimmermann Scholarship for Dramaturgy.
Since 2018, he has been researching the biographies of employees of the Münchner Kammerspiele who were persecuted under the Nazi regime as part of his long-term project SCHICKSALE. More than 370 individual stories have now been documented. Under the heading »Remembrance as Work on the Present«, he also develops artistic projects at the intersection of art and the work of remembrance. In 2026, he received the Wilhelm Hausenstein Award from the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in recognition of this work.
