David Riaño Molina

Born in Bogotá, Colombia. Has been working as a guitarist, composer and sound designer in Berlin since 2008. He came to Germany with his family in 1994 when his father got a contract as an opera singer at the Musiktheater Gelsenkirchen. From 2008 to 2013 he studied music at the Jazz Department of the Berlin University of the Arts with the renowned jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel. During his studies David performed internationally and played as a bandleader at major festivals such as the Jazz Fest Berlin, the Jazz Festival Lyon, the Jazz Festival Leipzig, the Jazztage Stuttgart, the Jazzfestival Enschede and the Jazzfestival Fieberbrunn in Austria. He was a scholarship holder with Yehudi Menuhin from 2009 to 2012. In 2015 he received the Elsa Neumann scholarship for his project »Ambrodavi«, a fusion of Colombian Cumbia with jazz and pop. In 2018, he received the »Award of Recording Dates« grant from the Senate Department for Culture and Europe for his project. His recording »Cuentero« was released in August 2019. In 2017, he began to expand his compositional work to stage and theatre music, working as a live musician and musical co-leader with director Falk Richter on the production »Verräter« at Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin. In 2018 and 2019 he worked as musical supervisor and assistant of Nils Ostendorf on the productions »History ov Violence«, »abyss« and »Youth without God«.
