Didier Eribon

Born in 1953 in Reims, France. Author, sociologist and philosopher. Considered as one of the most influential European intellectuals. Became known in Germany with his biography of Michel Foucault (1991) for which he received highest praise by renowned colleagues such as the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu and the American historian Hayden White. His socio-autobiography »Return to Reims« (2009, German edition 2016) in which he reveals the break-up of French society attracted international attention. His work »Insult and the Making of the Gay Self« (1999, German edition 2019) has become a classic and a founding document of Queer Studies. Eribon was professor of sociology in Amiens and visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, at the universities of Harvard and Yale, at New York University (NYU) and at Columbia University.
