Dimitrij Schaad

Dimitrij Schaad was born in Kazakhstan in 1985 and moved to Germany with his family in 1993. After his studies at the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding in Munich, he enjoyed his first major success at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and was subsequently a defining member of the Maxim-Gorki-Theater ensemble from 2013-2019, which during this time was twice selected as Theatre of the Year. Schaad himself was named Young Actor of the Year.

In 2023 he received the Ulrich Wildgruber Award as well as the German Actor Award. Since his starring role in the best-selling film adaptation »The Kangaroo Chronicles« he has devoted himself more to working in film. 2022 saw the release of »The Kangaroo Conspiracy«, the second installment in the series, and »Killing Eve«, and him as the male lead a in the Netflix hit series »Kleo«. In addition, Schaad is also an author. In co-authorship with the director Yael Ronen, he has written several plays that have been presented at the Mülheimer Theatertage, at the Berliner Theatertreffen, and have been performed in several countries. With his brother, director Alex Schaad, he creates movies and TV shows. Their short films won two Max Ophüls Prizes, the Grimme Prize and in 2016 in Los Angeles a student Oscar in gold. Their feature film debut »Aus meiner Haut« premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was awarded the Queer Lion Award, at the Filmfest Hamburg with the big Producer Award for Best German Cinema Production and at the Bavarian Film Filmpreis as best new screenplay.

Schaad can now be seen for the first time at Schaubühne with »The Silence«, and has been named »Actor of the Year« 2024 (Theater heute) for his performance.
