Donato Wharton

Born in Cardiff in 1976. Musician and sound designer. Lives in Berkshire, Great Britain. Studied Sound Design at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London. Master's degree in Digital Composition and Performance at the Reid School of Music, Edinburgh College of Art. Releases of electronic music on the labels City Centre Offices and Serein, among others. After working as sound manager for Canadian theatre maker Robert Lepage/Ex machina, he has been working as sound designer on productions by Katie Mitchell since 2012 including »Norma Jeane Baker of Troy« (The Shed, New York 2019), »La Maladie de la Mort« (Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Paris 2018), »De meiden« (toneelgroep Amsterdam 2016), »Bluets«, »Sleeping Men«, »4. 48 Psychose«, »Glückliche Tage«, »Reisende auf einem Bein«, »Alles Weitere kennen Sie aus dem Kino« (at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg). Sound design for »Uit het leven van marionetten« directed by Nanouk Leopold (toneelgroup Amsterdam 2017), in cooperation with JS Côté sound design for Robert Lepage/Ex machinas »Playing Cards 2: Hearts« (2013). In the UK sound designer for the National Theatre, London (»Under Milk Wood«, 2021, »Three Sisters«, 2019) and in the West End (»Appropriate«, Donmar Warehouse Theatre, 2019), among others.
