Born near Rinteln in 1944. Studied acting at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hanover from 1960 to 1963. Engagements in Darmstadt, Wuppertal, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. From 1973 to 1977 ensemble member of the Schaubühne Berlin where she appeared in »Sommergäste« by Maxim Gorki (director: Peter Stein, 1974). From 1977 she worked with Peter Zadek and starred in his productions »Hamlet« by William Shakespeare at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and »Losing Time« by John Hopkins at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg (2014 1984), where she remained for more than 20 years. In 1986 she appeared in »Ritter Dene Voss«, written by Thomas Bernhard for the actors Ilse Ritter, Kirsten Dene and Gert Voss (directed by Claus Peymann, Salzburg Festival and Burgtheater Vienna, 1986). Collaboration with directors Luc Bondy, Hans Neuenfels, Klaus Michael Grüber, Robert Wilson, Christoph Marthaler, Matthias Hartmann, Jürgen Gosch and Jossi Wieler, among others. Ritter has recently appeared in »Doña Rosita the Spinster and the Language of Flowers « by Fedrico Garcia Lorca (Director: Armin Holz, Schauspielhaus Bochum, 2006), in »The Broken Jug« by Heinrich von Kleist (Director: Peter Stein, Berliner Ensemble, 2008), in »The Marquise of O« by Heinrich von Kleist (Director: Frank Castorf, Volksbühne Berlin, 2012), in »Villa Verdi« after Daniel Schmid (Director: Johann Kresnick, Volksbühne Berlin, 2013), in »The Sun« by Olivier Py (Director: Olivier Py, Volksbühne Berlin, 2013) and in »Don Juan comes back from the war« by Ödön von Horváth (Director: Luc Bondy, Berliner Ensemble, 2013).
Various film and television productions, including »Rückfahrt von Venedig« (director: Tom Toelle, 1973), »Bella Donna« (director: Peter Keglevic, 1985) and »Formentera« (director: Ann-Kristin Reyels, 2012). In 1985 and 1994 she was voted Actress of the Year by the magazine Theater heute.
