Malte Beckenbach

Born in Berlin in 1974. Studied medicine at the Charité Berlin. Since 2000 working as a freelance composer and musician at the Schaubühne. Foundation of a label for experimental electronic music in 1988. First releases in collaboration with Falk Richter (»Gott ist ein DJ« [›God is a DJ‹], Staatstheater Mainz, »Nothing Hurts« with Anouk van Dijk, Kampnagel Hamburg) in 1999. Subsequently further projects with Falk Richter including »The Handbag« (2000), »Nightsongs« (2001) and »A Number« (2003) as well as with Anouk van Dijk and Tom Kühnel. Numerous releases on electro labels from Berlin such as Kitty-Yo, Tonkind, B-Pitch and Projekt Mooncircle. Film music for Lars Becker’s »Vatertag« (»Father's Day«) in 2004 and »Tod im Supermarkt« (»Death in the Supermarket«) in 2005. Compositions for the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Residenztheater Munich, the Schauspielhaus Zurich, the Burgtheater in Vienna, the National Theatre Oslo and the Festival d'Avignon, among others. In 2015 he composed the music for »Romeo and Juliet« by William Shakespeare (director: Johannes von Matuschka) at the Staatstheater Nuremberg and for »His name was Gil Scott-Heron« (curated by Nicholas Mockridge) at the Kantine am Berghain.
