Marc Freitag
Born in Berlin. In 1990, he qualified as a state-recognised fashion designer at the Lette-Verein Berlin; in 1994, he trained as a pattern-maker for cutting and production at the Akademie Mode & Design in Hamburg (AMD). Since 1995, he has worked as a freelance costume and set designer and fashion designer. Worked for the Tanzfabrik Berlin (1998) and independent theatre groups; commissions for pattern-making and production in the theatre industry. Worked as an assistant and workshop manager at the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival, the Herrenhausen Festival Weeks in Hanover and the Handel Festival in Göttingen. Costume designs at the Schaubühne, including »Bunny« (2012, directed by Christoph Schletz) and »Wengenroth’s Authors’ Club« (2014–2016, directed by Patrick Wengenroth); contribution to the Brecht Festival in Augsburg (2017). Created headwear for Victoria Behr in productions by Herbert Fritsch. Styling and costume design for music videos by Pari San and Matthias Arfmann (directed by Zoran Bihać) and for the Schaubühne’s season campaigns, photographed by Paolo Pellegrin (2017/18) and John Bock (2019/20). Since 2020, regular work for the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts and for Patrick Wengenroth at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin: costume design for »Gundermann — Men, Women and Machines« (2020); set design for »Utopia, for all I care« (2021); set design for »Der Räuber Hotzenplotz« (2022), »Sophia, der Tod und ich« (2023) and »Neues vom Räuber Hotzenplotz« (2024). Set design for the ballets »Petrushka« (2024, choreography: Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich) and »The Firebird« (2024, choreography: Xenia Wiest). For the Ludwigsburg Theatre Summer Festival, costume design for »Hedda Gabler« (2025, directed by Christine Hofer). Costume design for »Egal« by Marius von Mayenburg at the Schaubühne (2026). Costume design for »Warnung vor einer Heiligen Nutte« at the TD Berlin (2026, directed by Patrick Wengenroth). Costume design for »The Threepenny Opera« for the Schwerin Castle Festival 2026.
