Marcel Kohler

Since the 2023/24 season member of the Schaubühne ensemble. Born in Mainz. Studied acting at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst ‘Ernst Busch’ Berlin. Scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. From 2015 to 2023 member of the ensemble at Deutsches Theater Berlin. Repeated collaborations with Daniela Löffner, Stephan Kimmig, Jossi Wieler, Dušan David Pařízek and Kirill Serebrennikov. 2016 winner of the ‘Alfred Kerr Actor Award’ for the best performance by a young actor at the Theatertreffen and ‘ Emerging Actor of the Year’ awarded by Theater heute. Received the Daphne Preis 2017 for exceptional performances by the TheaterGemeinde Berlin. Recurring appearances at Salzburger Festspiele. He also works regularly as a director and set designer, for example at the Nationaltheater Weimar and Theater Heidelberg. His productions have been honoured in a retrospective at the ‘Faust Preis’ and received the ‘Dr. Otto-Kasten-Preis’ from the artistic directors' group in 2021. They have also been invited to renowned festivals such as Ruhrfestspiele, Mülheimer Theatertage, Fringe Festival Beijing/China, Gogol-Festival Kyiv/Ukraine, Festival di Spoleto/Italy and Fiesad-Festival Rabbat/Morocco. In addition to his work as a theatre actor, he has also appeared in film for selected projects. For example, he played in ‘Alle reden übers Wetter’ by Annika Pinske (Berlinale Panorama) and in Angela Schanelec's ‘Ich war zuhause, aber...’ (Silver Bear ‘Best Director’/Berlinale). Marcel Kohler is the initiator and founding member of the ‘Neues Künstlertheater’. Most recently, he received the ‘Kunstpreis Berlin’ of the Akademie der Künste in 2023.
