Simon Stone

The director and writer was born in Basel (Switzerland) in 1984 and grew up in Cambridge (UK) and Melbourne (Australia). He studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. In 2007, he founded The Hayloft Project theatre company for which he has adapted plays including by Anton Chekhov. In 2015, he directed the feature film »The Daughter« based on Ibsen’s »The Wild Duck«. From 2015 to 2017, he was in-house director at Theater Basel. He has directed numerous productions around Europe including at the Young Vic in London, the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Berliner Ensemble, the Salzburg Festival and the Opéra national de Paris. His accolades include the Theater heute Production of the Year and the Nestroy Theatre Prize – both in 2015 – as well as the Theater heute Play of the Year in 2016. His work has received several invitations to the Theatertreffen in Berlin as well as to the Ibsen Festival in Oslo, the Wiener Festwochen and the Holland Festival in Amsterdam.
