Virginie Despentes

Born in 1969 in Nancy. Writer and filmmaker. Worked in massage parlors and peep shows, ran a record store and performed as a singer. Became known as the author of the »scandal books« »Baise-moi«, »Apocalypse, Baby« and the biographical and feminist essay »King Kong Theory«. Her novel »Vernon Subutex 1« (2015) was nominated for numerous awards and has been heading the list of best-selling books in France for months. Two other »Subutex«-novels followed. The trilogy was filmed as a series for TV. Despentes was nominated for the Prix Goncourt several times. She has been a member of the Prix Goncourt jury since early 2016.
