The Lower Depths

by Maxim Gorki in an edition of the ensemble
Direction: Peter Kleinert

Co-production with the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst »Ernst Busch« Berlin.

Washed-up failures, criminals, prostitutes, drunks and murderers fight for every opportunity of survival and yet individually, they fail. Only the pilgrim Luka can bring hope to this resigned world. However, his tempting, attractive, alluring »good« advice is poison for the souls of the powerless: A murder and suicide are the result. What can theatre tell you about a world that has divorced itself entirely from all bourgeois conventions of behaviour and representation?

Peter Kleinert [b.1947, Weimar] is the head of the faculty of »directing« at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst »Ernst Busch« Berlin.
