Film: »LOVE«
by Alexander Zeldin
Globe
Followed by a workshop discussion
In the supporting programme, we will be screening the film adaptation of Zeldin’s play »LOVE«, the second part of his »The Inequalities« trilogy which was presented as a theatre production at the FIND 2022. Zeldin himself adapted his play into a film for the BBC in 2018. Like the play, the film is set in an emergency shelter for people who have recently become homeless. In the run-up to Christmas holidays, various people meet in the common room between the kitchenette and the bathrooms: a middle-aged man who is caring for his elderly mother; a young family with two children whose mother is pregnant; a woman from Sudan. Paying great attention to psychologically precise details, the piece observes how these people grow closer to one another within this confined space.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Alexander Zeldin about the film, the trilogy and his theatre work.
Co-Production: National Theatre, Cuba Pictures and the BBC
