How would it feel to always wear a snowsuit, even on the beach or at the outdoor pool? Johann, the main character in »Paradiesische Zustände«, feels like this most of the time – or like a Wolpertinger, a mythical creature made up of various ill-fitting animals. Whether on a beach holiday, at work in the Berlin sausage start-up »Le sausage« or in the outdoor pool – something is not quite right. It takes a failed love affair and a trip to the depths of psychiatry for it to become clear: Johann is trans* and has to change something fundamental if life is to continue and perhaps even become heavenly. Against all odds and with the help of his best friend Louise, Johann will finally shower in the daylight and stand calmly in front of the mirror.

Henri Maximilian Jakobs has written a book about a big decision that he also made himself. His book »Paradiesische Zustände« tells the story of a transition, the long road to self-awareness and the obstacle course through authorities, offices and social challenges, combining empathy and biting humour. He is looking for a way to make this story compre- hensible on the studio stage using language, sound and
an oven.

HENRI MAXIMILIAN JAKOBS was born and grew up in Munich; after studying jazz music, he lives as a musician, author and actor in Berlin. He publishes records and tours under his own name and with various bands. Since 2021 he has also performed in various roles in Berlin, including at Theater an der Parkaue, Heimathafen Neukölln and Sophiensaele as well as at the Schaubühne (»Vernon Subutex 1«, »House of Dance«).
