Initially, attempts were made in Germany to dismiss the Black Lives Matter movement and criticism of structural racism and violence as an American phenomenon. But othering and exoticising, discrimination and anti-Black racism are bitter everyday experiences for Black and African people and members of the African diaspora here. In every social, cultural and political context, these groups experience various forms of exoticising or criminalisation – and violence. Which strategies in anti-racist activism and which artistic and social practices of criticism and protest can help? Which alliances are necessary?
